Best Social Media Marketing Strategies for Small Business

    July 30, 2012

In this article we will look at the best social media marketing strategies to promote any small business on the internet.

    Social Media Viral Syndication

Social networking is the future of traffic. Google is starting to use social triggers more and more to help decide which content to rank on Google because it is harder to manipulate giving yourself backlinks from other people’s social networking accounts. But you can use social media to get traffic without having to rely on Google. Just post one interesting blog post with some informative tips and then go to a relevant Facebook Group and share the content.

Your competition will be low because everyone else will be posting spammy looking links, so if you simply write something like “Hey everyone, I have just posted this article that I think will help you in your business. What do you think?” then you will stand out from all the hype.

    Twitter Marketing

This free web traffic strategy does not rely on you having many Twitter followers. As part of this best free web traffic tip, simply post a link to your blog post in Twitter but use hashtags to have the Twitter search engine associate your tweet with relevant keywords. Many Twitter users request to be notified when a tweet comes in containing phrases they are interested in. So use your hashtags (#InternetMarketing, #Business etc.) wisely. Also, specifically request that people re-tweet your links to increase chances of viral syndication.

    TribePro

This social bookmarking service is like Ping.FM but taken to the next level. For every link you post, it will be shared via the social media accounts of many other marketers. This will create social backlinks from real social networking accounts with a variety of different IP addresses. TribePro operates under the “sharing the love” philosophy in the internet marketing world, whereby you
see other marketers as colleagues and not competitors.

Social media marketing is at its strongest when marketers share each other’s content without worrying about sending traffic to their “competitors.” *

    Viral Video Traffic

YouTube is considered to be a social networking website nowadays. YouTube is an interactive community that can generate web traffic directly from the internal YouTube search and on the main Google search. Videos are now listed along text based websites in Google for direct free search engine traffic. One trick to get social media traffic from YouTube is to embed a popular viral video that someone else has created into your own blog post (this is perfectly legal and ethical). And then share that blog post via Facebook and Twitter, but direct traffic to the video on your blog and not to the video on YouTube.

    Social Media Blog Post Sharing

Don’t hang around and wait for Google to give you traffic, go out there and promote your content and get quicker traffic. A quick, make money, blogging tip for this is to write a press release to announce that blog post. You can even reuse much of the content in the PR to save time. A press release gets into Google News and will get traffic and backlinks to your blog post. Also, share it via
Facebook and Twitter and encourage others to do the same.

Take action on these best social media strategies for more traffic to your small business blog. It is a quick and easy way to increase web traffic without having to solely rely on the Google search.

Successful Backlink Strategies That Google Loves

    July 23, 2012

    What are Backlinks?

Backlinks are web hyperlinks placed on another person’s, or organizations’, website that link back to your site. These links allow the reader of the other website to jump to your site to read additional, relevant, information. Not only does the link remove the ‘search’ process for the reader it increases your site’s scoring with search engines, resulting in a higher placed ranking. So backlinks create good Search Engine Optimization (SEO), but only if used correctly.

    Quality or Quantity?

Be careful – if you create links with sites that are outside of your niche or sites that share little in common with yours, Google and all other search engines, will at best downgrade your ranking or, at worst, blacklist you! You have been warned: Google is red-hot on this and determined to stop people “bad linking.”

As with all things traffic, you must always aim for QUALITY not QUANTITY! 100 highly relevant backlinks are your personal Goldmine whereas 1,000 non-relevant links will bury you!

There are sites out there that have spent time (and money) linking to hundreds and thousands of sites. This approach used to be seen as a quick-fix traffic driving method but now, as search engines are demanding “relevancy” of content between linked sites, this is a definite no go area. If your site ends up like this, you WILL be treated as a link spammer. My advice? Don’t do it; it will KILL your site dead!

    How to use Backlinks

5 Simple methods That Make a Successful Backlinking Strategy

    1. Put your backlinks in articles, social bookmarking sites and blogs as well as in your signature on threads you post in any niche related forums.

    2. Google “social media sites” and add your website URL or your articles and blogs to the many social sites such as: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, digg.com, StumbleUpon.com, reddit.com and your YouTube channel. Everytime you post, your backlink will be seen. The most popular of these sites are classed by search engines as “authority sites” and have a very high page ranking themselves. This is good for you!

    3. Find other blogs with a similar (relevant) theme and add comments to them. At the end of your comments add a backlink to your own site.

    4. If the page you are creating backlinks for is an article, put a link on any similar articles you have written on the topic.

    5. An easy way to start building backlinks is to use a dedicated tool. I use ‘Backlink Builder’. This software allows you to enter your keyword(s) and it gives you a list of Content Related Sites that Want Your Backlink.

Why? Because they need a constant supply of fresh, related, high-relevancy (read: quality) content from trusted sources. You! Pick sites with a good reputation and popularity wherever possible.

7 Deadly Secrets You MUST always avoid or Your site is Dead!

Look: Never, Ever submit your niche site for backlink generation if you have any suspicion that the linking sites:

    1. Have little or no relevancy to your niche.

    2. Want to link to you from every page on their website.

    3. Are “Free-for-All” link sites. These allow anyone to post any link, from any site, which are then treated as spam.

    4. Are “Link-farms” with 100 or more unrelated links on a page.

    5. Are “Bad Neighbours” – sites such as gambling, sex and drugs.

    6. Use “mirror sites” where backlinks are copied to. These ‘copy’ sites may be banned. Connect to them and you will be too.

    7. Use the rel=”nofollow” tag in their backlinks. Search engines won’t give you the credit for the Page Ranking because bots will literally “not follow” the link back to your site.

You can check this by using right-click > View Source. In the file that opens, hold Ctrl + F (Control F) and type follow into the search box. This will find all occurrences of the word ‘follow’ including nofollow.

If there aren’t any matches, then fantastic – you’re on your way! If you find nofollow, then ignore the site.

    How to Remove Bad Backlinks

If you have links you don’t want anymore, for any reason, contact the site owner and ask them to remove them. Most will, but of course some you won’t get hold of – just leave them.

How to Build a Successful Backlink Strategy

Listen: Don’t get hung up over ‘old’ or ‘unwanted’ links. Just manage your link strategy making sure you regularly add the highest quality backlinks you can. Over time, these good links will outweigh any old/bad links and it’s the good links that build your Goldmine.

N.B: For help on managing your links there are several online software products available – just Google “link checker” and choose one to suit your budget.

7 Key Search Engine Optimization Tips

    July 23, 2012

Good SEO is invaluable to achieving online success. Before you invest in a search engine optimization tutorial here are some tips for getting the most beneficial effects from your optimization efforts.

    1. Text is the favorite format of search engine spiders. You can rely on spiders to crawl and read a website that
has sufficient text content. If your website is heavy on graphics or dynamic content, find some way to work some basic body text into your site because spiders don’t really see Flash, JavaScript or image text.

    2. When creating content, stick to one topic for each page. Several topics on a single page confuses readers and
    leads to poorer relevancy.

    3. Use your strongest keywords early on in your copy, preferably in the first sentence. Craft your sentence in
such a way as to help spiders establish a relationship between keywords. Insert keywords and key phrases in subsequent sentences, but avoid overusing them as this might lead search engines to consider it as spam. How do you determine if you’ve overused a word or phrase? Read your copy out loud. If it sounds natural, then it’s probably all right. If, however, there is a noticeable and awkward recurrence of the keywords, then you need to modify your copy.

    4. Provide clear trails for spiders so that they can move from point A to point B and so on until they’ve covered the extent of your website that you want them to cover. A simple way to achieve this is by supplying a text-based sitemap with a link to every page on your site that you want the spiders to crawl. This is especially beneficial if your site is relatively new and has few inbound links or if your site is comprised largely of images or other format that is not easily discoverable by spiders.

Sitemaps are of benefit as well to websites that have a large volume of content pages that are not linked to each other. Although they serve more as a directional tool for spiders than for your human visitors, do consider your website’s visitors when creating your sitemap.

    5. In some cases, you may not want spiders to access certain pages on your site. This may be due to privacy reasons or, because the pages are irrelevant to the site as a whole or something else. Learn to use “robots.txt” files to instruct spiders to stay away from such content.

    6. Make your URL search-engine-friendly. Use two to three relevant keywords in your URL. Use lower case letters instead of uppercase, and hyphens instead of underscores. In general, simple, easy to remember URLs without too much punctuation are the way to go.

    7. After the URL, spiders look at the page title. Titles are a very important on-page factor when it comes to ranking because a good title conveys to spiders what your webpage is about, therefore making it easier to index. When composing titles, use two or three strong keywords that tell the topic of the page and that you want to rank for. Keep in mind that the first words of the title are given the most importance, so you want to get those keywords in at the beginning. Your title is also what is shown to searchers in search engine results pages. Google shows up to 70 characters of a page title in their results page. Be sure to make each page title unique, even if topics may be similar. This avoids confusion.

In summary, if you plan on spending a considerable amount of time and effort towards ranking your own website, then it’s always worthwhile investing in a SEO training course. This will see you really maximize your efforts.
